Paging Era Ends as Thailand Telecommunications Firm Pulls Out.

Mar. 24--TOT Corporation is expected on Friday to scrap the paging service contract granted to Hutchison Telecommunications (Thailand) at the latter's request.

With mobile phones having rendered pagers all but obsolete, Hutchison sought permission to terminate its paging service that has been losing money since 2001.

Hutchison, which introduced the service in 1990, said it lost 299.74 million baht on the venture last year. The number of subscribers has been declining rapidly, from 23,063 in 2001 to 3,873 last year.
