Chubu Electric Power Company Starts New Reactor in Shizuoka, Japan.

Mar. 24--SHIZUOKA -- Chubu Electric Power Co. started a new reactor late Tuesday night in Hamaoka, Shizuoka Prefecture, the company said Wednesday.

The company said it hopes to put the No. 5 reactor of the Hamaoka nuclear power plant into full operation next January after it undergoes state inspections.

It is the first new reactor in Japan in two years since the No. 3 reactor of the Onagawa power plant in Miyagi Prefecture of Tohoku Electric Power Co. was put on line in January 2002.
