Oregon Lottery Director Puts Rate Proposal on Hold.

Mar. 23--SALEM, Ore. -- Lottery Director Brenda Rocklin did not unveil a new video poker compensation plan on Monday as expected, partly because she wants to study a new report that suggests overall state revenue could fall if the retailers' share of profits dips too much.

Oregon State University economist William Jaeger told lottery commissioners that some retailers would shorten business hours, eliminate free drinks for poker players or abandon the machines altogether because they wouldn't be profitable. His study was commissioned by the Oregon Restaurant Association, which opposes decreasing the retailers' compensation.
