Mar. 30--Basking Ridge-based Avaya is riding the VoIP wave.

VoIP -- short for Voice over Internet Protocol -- is a phone technology that translates voice conversations into tiny packets of data and, among other things, gives a desktop phone computer-like features.

Most experts believe VoIP will eventually replace our current phone system, which works by opening a single circuit between two callers.
