Pratt & Whitney to Focus on Smaller Jets after Losing Boeing Engine Deal.

Apr. 8--Pratt & Whitney expects to refocus its engine development efforts on smaller, narrow-body and regional jets after Boeing Co. Tuesday named competitors to power its new 7E7 Dreamliner.

Pratt President Louis Chenevert, speaking a day after General Electric and Rolls-Royce won the 7E7 competition, said his East Hartford-based company foresees no impact on employment from the contract loss.

Chenevert said dropping out of the 7E7 program would free up engineering and development resources that Pratt will redeploy to pursue upcoming market opportunities.
