Myrtle Beach, S.C., Farmers to Plant Soybean, Corn due to High Crop Prices.

Apr. 12--As predicted, more farmers intend to plant soybeans this year in an effort to cash in on 20-year-high prices, according to prospective planting statistics from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

If the projected 75.4 million acres of soybeans are planted this season, it will be the largest such planting on record and could boost the crop from a three-year decline, according to officials with the National Agricultural Statistics Service.

Locally, farmers are expected to increase their soybean and corn plantings by 5 percent, extension agents said.
