General Motors Facility in Massena, N.Y., to Upgrade Robot Software.

Apr. 10--MASSENA, N.Y. -- General Motors Powertrain will install by June three more "vision" software packages that will help its robots better position items on assembly lines.

Engine parts at the plant are sometimes tilted 10 degrees or placed several inches out of alignment when loaded by robots onto a conveyor belt. When this happens, other robots crash into the parts, generating costly downtime and expensive scrap.
