Hospitals Vie for State Approval to Build Medical Center in Issaquah, Wash.

Apr. 14--Overlake Hospital Medical Center in Bellevue has entered what has become a high-stakes race to build a new hospital in Issaquah.

Overlake announced yesterday that it hopes to win state approval for a 120-bed hospital in the rapidly growing city of 15,000 people. The announcement comes less than four weeks after Seattle-based Swedish Medical Center announced plans for a 175-bed hospital.

Overlake CEO Ken Graham acknowledged that the state will likely approve only one of the plans.
