Federated Targets Marshall Field's Department Stores for Buyout.

Apr. 15--Federated Department Stores Inc., the owner of Macy's and Bloomingdale's, said Wednesday that it might buy the Marshall Field's department stores from Target Corp.

Target said last month that it wanted to sell the Marshall Field's and Mervyn's chains.

St. Louis-based May Department Stores Co., which owns Famous-Barr and Lord & Taylor, among others, and Federated, based in Cincinnati, are considered the most likely buyers for Marshall Field's.

A spokeswoman for May Co. said the company had no comment on Federated's announcement.
