Natural-Gas Rate Increase Likely for Las Vegas-Area Consumers.

Apr. 15--Southwest Gas Corp. appears on track for a 17.1 percent increase in gas rates in Southern Nevada after a two-hour hearing Wednesday before the Public Utilities Commission.
In seeking the rate increase, the gas distribution company is attempting to recover $43.3 million in natural gas purchase expenses.
In Northern Nevada, Southwest Gas is asking the PUC to increase rates by $12.1 million, or 15.6 percent, for gas costs.
The attorney general's Bureau of Consumer Protection didn't oppose the increase. However, the bureau argued that regulators and interveners should have an opportunity to review the actual spending for periods since Sept....
