Deerfield Beach, Fla.-Based Firm to Become Subsidiary of California Toymaker.

Apr. 21--A California toymaker is scooping up Care Bears, Cabbage Patch Kids and Teletubbies -- and their Deerfield Beach-based home, Play Along -- for $116 million.

The Malibu-based JAKKS Pacific said Tuesday that the characters would complement its own products, which range from action figures to pool floats.

Play Along will be a wholly owned subsidiary of JAKKS and continue to be based in South Florida and Hong Kong. The deal is expected to close this quarter.

Launched five years ago with a Britney Spears doll, the privately held Play Along employs about 50 people in Deerfield. They were to be told of the proposed acquisition late Tuesday.
