Builders Search for Steel Rods to Complete Bridge in Charleston, S.C., Area.

Apr. 21--Officials have been searching for a supplier of steel rods to complete the new Cooper River bridge after Georgetown Steel declared bankruptcy last fall, leaving Palmetto Bridge Constructors with only an 11-month supply of the essential building material.

Without the rods, construction on the bridge would grind to a halt in September. Rods from a Tennessee company, North Star, are being subjected to five quality assurance tests that must be passed before any official agreement can be reached.
