Governor of Virginia Orders Agencies to Cut Energy Use.

Apr. 23--Facing tight state budgets, Kevin Appleton is always looking for ways to cut costs at Norfolk State University.
So when Gov. Mark R. Warner set ambitious goals in a July executive order for Virginia agencies to slash energy consumption, the school became the first state's public university to comply. NSU will spend $2.1 million on upgrades to its lights and heating and cooling systems, but the project pays for itself and will save the school $2 million over the next 12 years.
"We have an ongoing interest in seeing how we can reduce costs and energy consumption," said Appleton, NSU's vice president for finance and business.
