Labor Dispute at SBC Communications Heats Up in Connecticut.

Apr. 24--The relationship between SBC Communications Corp. and its Connecticut union workers eroded this week as the union hired private investigators to tail selected SBC managers and picketed a job fair where replacement workers were being recruited.
The contract between SBC and 100,000 members of Communications Workers of America -- 5,500 in Connecticut -- expired April 3. A strike could start as soon as May 7.
The actions were taken against the backdrop of a strike authorization vote conducted this week by the union. Results of the vote will not be known until Thursday.
