Drugged Beef from Hereford, Texas, Did Not Get to Food Supply, Attorney Says.

Apr. 27--None of the cattle from the Richard Hayes Cattle Co. in Hereford, which the Food and Drug Administration and U.S. Department of Justice cited for selling beef with illegal and unsafe drug residues, made it into the food supply, the firm's attorney said Monday.

The Department of Justice filed court documents claiming the firm violated federal laws designed to bar unsafe products from the food supply. The FDA and Department of Agriculture had sent letters to Hayes stating that 16 animals were sold for slaughter with unsafe drug residues between 2000 and 2002.
