May 3--BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- When Jerry Arthur first went to work for Cook Group, he stuck his head into the office of Indiana's reluctant business legend Bill Cook and told him about an idea for a company.

Cook listened, then committed $25 million on the spot and told Arthur to come back if he needed more.

"That was the approval process!" said Arthur, who once had to make seven presentations just to get approval for a new copy machine at Eli Lilly and Co.
