May 3--BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- When Jerry Arthur first went to work for Cook Group, he stuck his head into the office of Indiana's reluctant business legend Bill Cook and told him about an idea for a company.
Cook listened, then committed $25 million on the spot and told Arthur to come back if he needed more.
"That was the approval process!" said Arthur, who once had to make seven presentations just to get approval for a new copy machine at Eli Lilly and Co.
"When I left Lilly, I got off this giant aircraft carrier and got on this speedboat," Arthur said. And he still is zipping along after being handed another $45 million by Cook two weeks ago to create...
