Southern Co. Dissolves Contract with Power Plant Construction Firm.

May 6--After three construction-related deaths in less than three months, energy giant Southern Company and W.G. Yates and Sons Construction dissolved their contract Wednesday.
The decision ended Yates' role as the general contractor overseeing construction of two natural gas-powered electric generating units at Plant McIntosh near Rincon.
Ed Day, Southern's senior vice president for engineering and construction, said the power company and the Mississippi-based general contractor agreed to part ways because of the fatalities and other job-related factors.
