U.S. Senate Committee's Defense Spending Plan Has Billions for Connecticut.

May 7--WASHINGTON -- A key Senate committee Thursday approved a $401 billion defense spending plan for 2005 that includes billions of dollars for military systems important to Connecticut contractors and their workers.

The measure that the Senate Armed Services Committee passed fully funds most of the programs at the levels the Pentagon requested in early February.

"The Connecticut defense industry and its workers did very well because the products we produce stand up to the demanding standards of this time and the needs of our military," Sen. Joseph I. Lieberman, D-Conn. and a member of the committee, said in a conference call.
