Japan Mobile-Phone Giant Studies Sale of 20 Percent Equity Stake in U.K. Firm.

May 7--TOKYO -- NTT DoCoMo Inc. is considering selling its 20 percent equity stake in Hutchison 3G UK Ltd., a British third-generation mobile phone services company, the president of the Japanese mobile phone giant said Friday.

Selling the equity stake "is among our policy options," Keiji Tachikawa said in a news conference.

Critics say NTT DoCoMo is not enjoying the fruits of its 180 billion yen investment to purchase the equity stake as Hutchison 3G has not adopted NTT DoCoMo's i-mode Internet-capable mobile phone services.
