Mebane, N.C., Bypass Panel Gets Ready to Meet Transportation Department.

May 14--MEBANE, N.C. -- A citywide steering committee on the 119 bypass is almost ready to start working as the go-to group on the controversial road project.

Because of resistance to the road, the state Department of Transportation (DOT) is forming a citizens committee to decide how and even if the road will be built. It's the first time in the department's history that it has used this approach on a road project.

Bill Riddick is a consultant with the Raleigh firm Wills Duncan Group. The state hired the consultants to form a committee that would talk to DOT about the bypass without yelling. Riddick said he succeeded.
