Union Plans 'Warning Strike' at SBC Communications in Connecticut, 12 States.

May 20--Unionized workers for SBC Communications Inc. -- including 5,500 in Connecticut -- say they expect to stage a four-day "warning strike" to signal their resolve to negotiate a favorable contract.

"The purpose of that is to give SBC a preview of what's to come if we don't get a fair settlement," said Paul Hongo, president of Communications Workers of America Local 1298, representing unionized SBC workers in Connecticut.

Line crews, operators and others would leave their posts, beginning at 12:01 a.m. Friday, and not return until 12:01 a.m. Tuesday, union leaders said.
