Groton, Conn.'s Electric Boat Hauls in $24 Million in Aircraft-Carrier Design.

May 22--GROTON, Conn. -- Electric Boat will receive almost $24 million in design work as a major subcontractor for Newport News (Va.) Shipbuilding on the next-generation aircraft carrier project, the Pentagon announced late Friday.
The Pentagon said Newport News would receive $182.5 million for design, long-lead-time material purchases, non-nuclear advance construction, and a variety of studies for the Future Aircraft Carrier Program. The design contract runs through December 2006, and construction of the ship, CVN 21, is expected to begin in the fiscal year that begins Oct. 1, 2006.
