Amgen Injects Job Growth with Arthritis Drug Production.

May 25--The push to produce more Enbrel, a rheumatoid arthritis drug that relieves several afflictions, has given Amgen Inc. some of the highest job gains in Rhode Island during the past year.

Amgen has added 414 jobs in the last 12 months as the company prepares to open a second biomedical plant in West Greenwich later this year. The move raised employment by 53 percent, to about 1,200 technical and managerial workers. Amgen's Rhode Island work force represents about 9 percent of the 13,000 employees of the company, which is based in Thousand Oaks, Calif.

Employment gains were also recorded by many other companies on the Impact 50 list of public companies...
