Critic Withdraws Protest against California's Gold Line Transit Extension.

May 27--A key congressman whose opposition to the MTA's Gold Line extension threatened to halt this summer's groundbreaking reversed his position Wednesday.

Gaining support from Rep. Ernest J. Istook, Jr., R-Okla., chairman of a House Appropriations subcommittee dealing with transportation funds, means the $900 million, six-mile light rail extension into Little Tokyo and East Los Angeles is back on track.

"We're very excited it's finally coming together," said MTA board member Gloria Molina, a county supervisor whose district includes the area.

"We're very, very grateful," she said. "This is great news all around."
