New York's Human Rights Commission Probes Minority Hiring in City Ad Agencies.

May 28--The city's Human Rights Commission has begun investigating the minority hiring practices of city advertising agencies after soliciting race- and ethnicity-related employee data from the firms, a source confirmed yesterday.

As a result of the investigation, the American Association of Advertising Agencies, the major trade group of the ad industry, is attempting to meet with the Human Rights Commission on behalf of its members, said Kipp Cheng, a spokesman for the Manhattan-based group. He confirmed the existence of the investigation but was not privy to the specifics, and that the group would have no comment until results are announced.
