May 28--How would you like to increase your power rates by 80 percent during the hottest hours of summer and still save money?
If so, then Nevada Power Co. has got a deal for you. It's called the time-of-use rate program.
As strange as it sounds, some residents save money by agreeing to pay higher energy rates during peak-use hours, because they get a discount on power used during other times.
Consider the example of Jon Wellinghoff, the former consumer advocate who now works as an energy lawyer with Beckley Singleton. He and his family live in a 3,000-square-foot house, signed up for time-of-use rates and paid $120 to $130 in July and August last...
