May 28--LANCASTER AIRPORT RECEIVES $5.1 MILLION GRANT FROM FAA: The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded Lancaster Airport a $5.1 million grant, U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter announced Thursday.
The grant, part of $63.5 million allocated to 15 Pennsylvania airports, will help pay for a $14.1 million extension of the airport's main runway.
The airport plans to add 1,600 feet of length to the runway, bringing it to 7,000 feet, to meet FAA safety regulations and to accommodate larger aircraft.
However, even with the new grant, the airport remains $2.5 million short of the project's total cost, a shortfall the airport is trying to bridge by pursuing other funding avenues....
