Technology Helps Outdoor-Equipment Industry Grow.

Jun. 3--Lawn mowers, snow throwers, leaf blowers and other products of the outdoor power equipment industry are becoming more high-tech -- a trend that's blowing more dollars into the pockets of their manufacturers.

That's a key reason why Wauwatosa-based Briggs & Stratton Corp. announced Wednesday that it is buying Port Washington-based Simplicity Manufacturing Inc. for $227.5 million.

The trend also explains why Simplicity, known for its riding mowers, and other outdoor power equipment makers have been cranking out a growing number of new models, including some that literally turn on a dime and others that are cleaner and quieter than your father's lawn...
