Nationwide Program Will Provide Free Credit Reports.

Jun. 5--KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Consumers in Missouri and Kansas finally will be able to get free annual credit reports -- but they must wait until March to make their requests.

The Federal Trade Commission on Friday announced the rollout of a much-anticipated nationwide program that will allow consumers to get a free credit report each year. The program will be phased in across the country over nine months beginning Dec. 1 in Western states.

Credit reports provide information to consumers about what creditors are saying about them. They are crucial in gaining loans, especially to buy a car or a home.

So why the delay in implementing the program?
