Jun. 9--The upcoming move to Tulsa, Okla., by the Fort Lauderdale parent company of Alamo Rent A Car and National Car Rental will cost South Florida 600 jobs.
Vanguard Car Rental USA reported that only 80 workers will relocate with the company's headquarters to Tulsa. The other 520 positions will be eliminated, leaving about 1,200 workers in South Florida, from the Keys to West Palm Beach.
Vanguard, which was created to oversee the two car-rental chains after their assets were purchased out of bankruptcy in October, disclosed the figures following an inquiry from The Herald. Vanguard announced plans to relocate in January.
