Connecticut Rail Upgrade Plan Includes Buying 38 Used Cars for $60 Million.

Jun. 10--Gov. John G. Rowland unveiled a $1.08 billion plan Wednesday to upgrade the state's aging rail car fleet and maintenance facility.

In a prepared statement, Rowland said the state Department of Transportation will use $60 million to purchase 38 used rail cars from Virginia Railway Express that will add 4,000 new seats to the state's rail system. The Legislature authorized the money for the purchase this year.

"I am very pleased that we will be able to deliver some relief to our commuters within a few short months," Rowland said in a release. "Now we must determine the most efficient way to finance the purchase of new cars over the next few years."...
