Britain, U.S. Float NATO Plan for Iraq at G-8 Summit in Georgia.

Jun. 10--SEA ISLAND, Ga. -- President Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair Wednesday engaged the future of Iraq, meeting with new Iraqi President Ghazi al-Yawer and suggesting an expansion of NATO security forces.
Such a move would expand NATO's scope from solely operating in Europe and likely force countries that opposed the war in Iraq to commit troops there.
Independent of NATO, 16 of the alliance's 26 members already have some role in Iraq.
"The crucial thing now is the people of Iraq know they've got the whole of the international community on their side, for Iraq is a stable and democratic country," Blair said.
