State-Owned British Nuclear Fuels Should Be All Clear for Clean-Up.

Jun. 11--British Nuclear Fuels is looking forward to shedding its lossmaking operations and focusing on its profitable clean-up activities.

The group lost UKpound 299 million on UKpound 2.3 billion sales in the year to March, but after the handover to Nuclear Decommissioning Authority, due next April, it should keep sales of UKpound 3 billion and operating profits of UKpound 150 million to UKpound 200 million.

That could clear the way for privatisation which was planned under the Tories, but which Labour took off the agenda. As energy prices rise, chief executive Michael Parker says the government faces decisions by 2006 on whether new nuclear stations should be built.
