Jun. 10--"It's steady as she goes" is skipper Fred Goodwin's message from the helm of Royal Bank of Scotland.
Profits for the first half of the year are on course to meet City expectations. Analysts forecast it will make UKpound 7.85 billion for the full year, up from UKpound 7.15 billion last time.
Other rivals look lost at sea. Bosses of Barclays and Lloyds TSB complained this week that British banks were vulnerable to US and other overseas predators.
It does not seem too much of a worry for Goodwin, who is expanding his American empire with last month's UKpound 5.8 billion takeover of Charter One of Ohio. But RBS shares fell 15 pence to 1664 pence as traders expressed...
