Thai Utility May Get New Deal for Coal-Fired Power Plant.

Jun. 22--A new contract to build an independent power project (IPP) might be awarded to Gulf Electric as compensation for delays in starting its 734-megawatt coal-fired project originally planned for Bo Nok in Prachuab Khiri Khan.

Offering Gulf Electric a new contract was one of two options reviewed yesterday by directors of the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (Egat).

Gulf Electric wants four billion baht in compensation for delays in the Bo Nok project, which was eventually relocated to Kaeng Khoi in Saraburi with its fuel source switched from coal to natural gas after heavy opposition from environmental and community groups.
