Detroit apartment building to convert to condos.

Jun. 29--The Park Shelton, a venerable apartment building near the Detroit Institute of Arts where celebrities like artist Diego Rivera once stayed and that now caters to Wayne State University students and Detroit Medical Center workers, is going condominium.

Owned by an investment partnership headed by Southfield developer Walter Cohen, the Park Shelton was built in 1926 during Detroit's heyday on Woodward Avenue at Kirby, immediately north of the DIA. Its white terra- cotta exterior makes it one of the most distinctive apartment buildings in the city. The 12-story building has about 250 rooms.
