MCI workers facing job loss plan coping strategies in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Jun. 30--MCI managers in Colorado Springs who told 650 workers last week they will lose their jobs met Monday to plan classes that might help employees find work after the telemarketing center closes Aug. 24.

Classes, which include how to apply for unemployment checks and what job hunting and retraining services are available, begin July 7 at MCI's Tiffany Square site.

"MCI was one of our major employers. ... Colorado Springs will take a major hit with this layoff," said Cindy Christensen, a consultant with the Pikes Peak Workforce Center, a federally funded employment agency helping the long-distance phone company.
