American Airlines unveils initiatives to improve low-ranked customer service.

Jul. 8--FORT WORTH, Texas -- American Airlines is planning a broad slate of changes to flight operations in an effort to improve its customer service, an area in which low-fare competitors have a significant advantage.

Airline executives unveiled several dozen initiatives, some of them already in effect, to employees Wednesday. They range from ambitious, such as a plan to reduce delays at congested airports, to small touches, like providing real cream for coffee in first class and returning to the practice of handing out stick-on wings to child passengers.
