Firm's solar panels power up Carpinteria, Calif., Harley-Davidson shop.

Jul. 8--CARPINTERIA, Calif. -- Solar panels just installed on the roof of Santa Barbara Harley-Davidson are the first phase of an electricity-generation project that the shop owners hope will take their monthly Southern California Edison bill down to nothing.

Solar Electrical Systems of Westlake Village put in what the Santa Barbara County Planning Department said is likely the largest commercial solar project in that county N 3,380 square feet.

The panels are working on the south-facing roof to produce electricity for halogen lights and air-conditioning inside the warehouse-style building in Carpinteria.
