USDA says Maine has high number of food stamp errors.

Jul. 8--AUGUSTA, Maine -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture has informed state officials that Maine has the second-highest food stamp error rate in the nation and has warned the state could lose federal funds to administer the program if the errors are not reduced."

Maine could face the sanction of a reduction in administrative funds because the rate is excessive," Bob Canavan, Deputy Regional Administrator for the Department of Labor, said earlier this week. "Maine's rate for Fiscal Year 2003 was nearly twice the national average and it needs to be brought down to at least that level."
