Pre-1997 crisis bad practices reappear among Thai businesspeople.

Jul. 12--Some pre-crisis bad habits of Thai businesspeople, notably unproductive spending, are coming back, sparking concerns about a new round of economic problems, according to Ammar Siamwala, an eminent economist with the Thailand Development Research Institute.

With government economic policy rooted in offering businesses easier access to more sources of funding without thorough screening, unproductive business activity is on the rise, he said.

A major concern is that corporate money is being siphoned into individuals' pockets, as was common in the boom years of the early 1990s.
