Hard landing likely for Chinese economy, analyst says.

Jul. 13--The Chinese economy could come to a hard landing in the second half of 2005 as global liquidity tightens, according to Prasenjit Basu, managing director of Robust Economic Analysis.

Mr Basu, speaking at a presentation yesterday at the Stock Exchange of Thailand on the Asian economic outlook, said regional countries could take advantage of the Chinese economic bubble and subsequent slowdown to boost their exports to the US, still the key market overall for Asia.

But despite potential woes in China, Asia was expected to remain the fastest-growing region in the world through the medium term.
