RWE subsidiary bails out of Eastern Kentucky water system's woes.

Jul. 13--INEZ, Ky. -- While Kentucky American Water fends off condemnation efforts in Lexington, a corporate cousin is bailing out this week on an effort to rehabilitate a decrepit Eastern Kentucky water system.

Citing a $537,296 debt owed by the Martin County Water District, American Water Services Inc. -- a New Jersey-based subsidiary of RWE in Germany, which also owns Kentucky American -- is abandoning the Inez plant on Wednesday, project manager Dave Cooley said.

"It couldn't go on any longer," he said.
