Jul. 14--In early 2002, when I began digging into the blogging scene in earnest, I stumbled across a new piece of blogging software called Movable Type.
The free software was created by a young couple named Ben and Mena Trott, who toiled day and night out of their San Francisco apartment, subsisting largely on donations from users. Movable Type was unusually polished, especially for a free product. And though it was just a few months old, it already was developing a loyal following of users.
