ITV calls for broadcaster's licence cut in Britain.

Jul. 19--ITV chief executive Charles Allen is pressuring the government to slash the broad-caster's licence fee.

Currently the company spends UKpound 200m a year for the traditional "analogue" frequencies, plus another UKpound 250m on "public service" broadcasting.

These arrangements are up for renewal next year.

ITV needs the analogue frequencies less than it did.

New digital broadcasts already reach half the country and the number is rising quickly.

Analysts downplay fears of an early analogue switch off, but see a licence fee cut of up to UKpound 80m.
