AT&T Wireless to bring third-generation network to Dallas by end of 2004.

Jul. 21--AT&T Wireless launched a high-speed network Tuesday in Detroit, Phoenix, San Francisco and Seattle. It is expected to be available in Dallas and San Diego by the end of the year.

The broadband service, known as third generation, or 3G, allows users to look at the Internet, e-mail and video on handsets, handheld organizers and laptops. It moves about 220 to 320 kilobits per second and can be upgraded to reach peak rates of 14.4 megabits per second. Dallas was a test site for the network.
