Dayton, Ohio-area home construction activity hits low in June.

Jul. 21--New home construction slowed to a year-low in June, according to a report Tuesday from the U.S. Commerce Department.

By contrast, the increasing number of new homes authorized for construction suggest that housing starts in the Miami Valley continue to be strong, according to data from the Dayton Area Home Builders Association.

Building permits often are considered by economic analysts to be strong indicators of current market demand and economic activity.

Nationally, single-family housing units authorized by building permits in June were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.51 million, or 6.2 percent below the May figure of 1.61...
