Bonuses attract few teachers to struggling Orange County, Fla., schools.

Jul. 23--Top teachers willing to move to Orange County's lowest-performing high schools could earn as much as $6,000 extra this school year, but only a handful seems interested in transfers so far.

The extra money would add 15 percent to the pay of an average teacher, but it's only about half the bonus that Duval County teachers can get for working in schools consistently rated an F by the state.

David DeMond, Orange County teachers' union president, said Duval's package caters to a select group of teachers who are most responsible for driving up test scores, while the Orange County plan has something for all teachers.
