Big Y Foods to open superstore in Old Saybrook, Conn.

Jul. 24--The Springfield-based Big Y Foods Inc. is continuing to expand its presence in southeastern Connecticut and plans to open a new superstore in Old Saybrook in fall 2005.

The Old Saybrook store would be the food chain's fourth in southeastern Connecticut. Big Y has stores in Norwich and Waterford and is building a store in Groton, which will open in October.

Missy Lajoie, a Big Y spokeswoman, said the Old Saybrook store would cover nearly 64,000 square feet, which is about the same size as the Waterford and Groton stores. She said the chain's World Class Market-style stores typically range in size from 60,000 to 65,000 square feet.
