Jul. 24--It clogs mailboxes, offers everything from hot stock tips to hot, well, other things -- and it drives people crazy.
Spam -- the 21st Century version of junk mail -- has some people longing for the good old days when they could just toss unwanted envelopes into the trash can.
Despite the efforts of canned-meat manufacturer Hormel, use of the name "spam" and the amount of it being generated have both escalated to astronomical proportions. "We measure the amount of spam that comes in," said Michael Ford, president of Marathon-based Internet provider Digital Sail.
